Five Principles of the Dojo
- Character - the total sum of the qualities making up an individual: moral excellence
- Sincerity - honesty of intention: truthfulness
- Self Control - control over ones own impulses, emotions or acts
- Effort - putting forth an exertion of strength or power, physically, or mentally
- Etiquette - the conventional code of good manners which govern behavior in society: professional and business decorum
Rules of the Dojo
- Safety is key when inside the Dojo.
- Courtesy and Respect - Courtesy to instructors and fellow students and respect for the Villari Shaolin Kempo System.
- When a Black Belt kneels to tie their belt all students will kneel until the Black Belt has tied their belt.
- Speech - No profanity in Dojo.
- Attitude - Must be willing to obey the rules and to learn self-discipline. Always present yourself with respect for your instructor and the Fred Villari system.
- Spirit - Inner spirit is developed through confidence in your ability and development of skills.
- Cleanliness - Clean heart and mind.
- Bow when entering and leaving Dojo area.
- No jewelry, food, drinks, or gum chewing in Dojo area.
- Always display good manners in the Dojo.
- No alcoholic beverages in the Dojo or just prior to class.
- Always have a clean gi with proper patches.
- Please be on time for class-- If late, bow in, kneel on the floor and wait for instructor to allow you to enter class.
- No sparring without permission from the instructor, or proper gear.
- Do not punch heavy bags while classes are in session.
- Do not interrupt a lesson or instruction by an instructor or assistant.
